Breakout Sessions
Federal Executive Orders on DEI: Navigating the Changing Landscape
Federal executive orders targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and policies have caused ripple effects here in the state of Minnesota. Amidst the confusion and disruption caused by these actions, community leaders are meeting the moment to understand and respond to the impact of these orders on their organizational work, mission and purpose.
Join us for a robust panel conversation with leaders from the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors who will discuss risk assessment, implications for funding, and strategies to build resilience and stand in solidarity on their commitments to DEI.
Panelists: Josh Crosson (EdAllies), LeeAnn Rasachak (WomenVenture), Terri Thao (Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies)

Creating Career Pathways for BIPOC Leaders
For a decade, Capitol Pathways has opened access to policy and public service careers for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) youth. In a time when DEI programming is experiencing scrutiny and challenges, how can we continue to create pathways to opportunity and invest in building BIPOC leadership during uncertain times?
This session will feature an engaging panel conversation with Capitol Pathways alumni and hosts to explore the impact of pathway programs for BIPOC leaders, the challenges and strategies that work, and what support is needed to carve a path forward for the next generation of BIPOC leaders.
Panelists: Davaris Cheeks (Director of Cheryl T. Chatman Diversity Center, Concordia University), Jeru Gobeze (Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, Host), Kevin Huynh (Community Organizer, MN8), Stephany Aguirre Lopez (City of Saint Paul, 2018 alum),
Moderated by Robert Harper (Vizient, Inc., 2016 alum and Citizens League Board Member)

From Surviving to Thriving: Resilience Skills for Leaders in Advocacy
This session explores how leaders in policy and advocacy can protect their well-being and lead with strength in today’s challenging political climate. We’ll ground ourselves in a trauma-informed lens and explore common signs of burnout, emotional fatigue, and boundary erosion. Participants will then work in small groups to unpack a real-world case scenario and reflect on practical resilience strategies. We’ll close with a large-group discussion to share insights, lessons, and tools for sustaining passion and protecting mental health and sustainability in advocacy work.
