Q: Why did you decide to participate in Capitol Pathways? And – why is a program like Capitol Pathways important today?
Participating in Capitol Pathways was a deliberate decision rooted in my passion for communications and criminal justice. As a communications major and criminal justice minor, I recognized the significance of understanding the intricate connections between these two fields. Capitol Pathways provided a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the inner workings of public policy development, allowing me to witness firsthand how communication strategies and legislative decisions intersect. The program holds immense importance in today’s context for several reasons.
Firstly, it bridges the gap between theory and practice, offering students a practical understanding of how policies are formulated, debated, and enacted. Secondly, Capitol Pathways is a crucial initiative for fostering diversity and inclusion in policymaking. By providing students from different backgrounds with exposure to the legislative process, the program ensures that a broader range of perspectives is considered in policy discussions. In an era where diverse voices are essential for crafting equitable policies, programs like Capitol Pathways play a pivotal role in creating a more inclusive and representative future policymaking landscape.
