After an extensive search with many strong candidates, the Citizens League is excited to introduce its next Director of Public Policy, Luna Allen-Bakerian.

Luna officially joined Citizens League on Monday, March 4 and will serve as a key leader within our team, driving the League’s policy initiatives and community engagement. In this role, she will lead mission-driven work including policy projects, civic learning opportunities, events, and strategic initiatives and recommendations. She is energized by making public policy and civic engagement more accessible, inclusive, and exciting for community, which will suit the Citizens League well in this position!

Originally from Los Angeles, Luna has been living, learning, and working in Minneapolis for more than a decade. Her career and education have centered around inclusive civic engagement and building toward racial and gender justice. Most recently, Luna led policy and advocacy work at YWCA Minneapolis for nearly five years, and immediately prior worked for U.S. Senator Tina Smith in the district. A skilled collaborator, connector, and facilitator, her work is fueled by community and coalition relationships. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree with a focus on political engagement and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in gender, women, and sexuality studies. Luna has experience in the nonprofit sector, in higher education, and in municipal, state, and federal levels of government. She lives in Minneapolis with her partner and their cat, and enjoys time spent with family and friends, music, and swimming.
