Talent. Human Capital. The Creative Class. Minnesota's economy has long dominated the Midwest in terms of innovation, variety and vitality; fueled by our historical strengths in education, higher education, and most importantly, our talent-magnet economy. All create a land of opportunity for a well-educated workforce, contributing to an innovation economy's ability to thrive and create high-paying jobs and continue to expand the quality of life for which we are known.
This intriguing panel of Minnesota leaders will tackle the following themes from a variety of perspectives.
- How do we educate, reinvent and prepare the workforce we'll need to thrive in the 21st century?
- How are we addressing what Bill Gates has famously named "a broken and obsolete system?" American high schools are educating our kids for the economy of 50 years ago.
- Can Minnesota's early childhood, elementary, secondary and higher education institutions and initiatives continue to lead our nation?
- How can businesses in this state act to effect change for our economy's future and the future we seek for Minnesota?
- Math and Science and Engineering for the coming century:
Again from Gates, "In math and science, our 4th graders are among the top in the world. By 8th grade, they're in the middle of the pack. By 12th grade, U.S. students are near the bottom of all industrialized nations." Minnesota fares somewhat better, but what can we do to thrive?
