Blogging my Viewpoint: Democracy and Education

So what gives? I wrote this Dec. Viewpoint (PDF) as an exercise -- and I've gotten more feedback on it than any Viewpoint in 2006.

Background: It became clear in a meeting of the Active Citizenship Initiative that I really had a hard time connecting the civic role of education to current conversations about education. Dick Engler, the President/Principal at Cretin-Derham Hall, urged me to work on this. I used the Viewpoint as an opportunity to do so, which was really helpful.

I think the piece speaks for itself. Most of the feedback has been positive. One school official was concerned that I'm perpetuating the notion that schools are failing by saying that they are failing. I'll write more on that soon.
