Policy topics for Minnesota Journal?

I'm working on developing the editorial calendar for the 2007 editions of the Minnesota Journal.... and I could use some input from our members. We'll be doing a lot of work on the four policy areas that are the focus of MAP 150: political reform, health care, education and tax transparency. Are there questions or topics within those areas that you want to be sure we cover? Do you have ideas for how we can start to answer the four MAP 150 policy questions? For those - including me - who don't have them memorized yet, here's a recap:
  1. How can politics become more functional in solving citizens' shared problems?
  2. What can students teach us about how school and community needs to change so that we see dramatic improvements in student achievement?
  3. How can we make our health care system more affordable and secure, regardless of a person's work situation?
  4. How can we remove the mystery from how our taxes are used?
There is still plenty of space in the Journal to cover other policy issues. What are the policy topics you are most interested in? Are there people - policymakers, researchers, activists, or other citizens - that you especially want to hear from? Put your suggestions in the comments here, or contact me directly at vford [at] citizensleague.net or 651-293-0575 ext. 17.
